Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was five, she moved to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma knew she would like to be an actress. For a number of years she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught singing dancing and acting. In a school play and an Stagecoach Production, Emma took as the lead role at age 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama teacher. After eight consistent auditions producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast as the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's screen debut was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's debut in the year 2001. It also was one of the top-rated films in 2001. The opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph, an important British paper, called Emma's performances "amazing". Emma's performance received nominations and won five awards later for the film.
